Truths and feelings

by Cristina Chaves

When Cynthia noticed the boy had already put his chair closer while the group was getting ready for a new meeting with the management. Listening to her co-worker so interested in her opinion about the subject of the meeting she noticed that there was something else behind those words. At the end of the meeting, Augustus said to Cynthia:

"Did you see that? The guy really has his eye on you."

"That's ok. We are here to work."

"Well... That's true. I'm going to get some coffee. Do you want me to bring you some?"

"No, thank you very much."

That's when she started to notice that her co-worker was always nearby, always kind and concerned about her well being. Many times she caught him staring at her and started to watch him without letting him notice that she was already aware of the situation. And she also noticed that he always tried to talk louder than the others when they were in meetings together. And that he made fun of whoever was talking on the other end of the line when he answered other people's call at work.

And on top of it all he had a special interest about the porn files that went around among the guys in that sector. She realized who he really was when Augustus once started to make fun of someone who he had talked to on the phone:

"Did you see? The guy doesn't understand anything we are saying about this new product. It seems he doesn't even work in a computer company!!! I really deserve this! I must be paying for my sins. Sending a guy like that to work with me..."

And he left the room saying insulting words that clearly upset Cynthia. She was almost enjoying being together with him. But she realized that this kind of attitude showed a spirit that still doesn't know about the good things you can do for your neighbor and about the respect you should pay each human being. This is reason enough to keep her distance from him and give no reason to let him be anything more than a simple co-worker.

Is it important to watch and analyze the attitudes of someone we are getting to know?

What does being with someone mean?

Does it worth it staying just because you don't want to be alone?
