Footprints in the sand
Mary Stevenson
Age: 12 and over
One night I dreamed I was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Many scenes from my life flashed across the sky.
In each scene I noticed footprints in the sand.
Sometimes there were two sets of footprints,
other times there were one set of footprints.
This bothered me because I noticed
that during the low periods of my life,
when I was suffering from
anguish, sorrow or defeat,
I could see only one set of footprints.
So I said to the Lord,
"You promised me Lord,
that if I followed you,
you would walk with me always.
But I have noticed that during the most trying periods of my life
there have only been one set of footprints in the sand.
Why, when I needed you most, you have not been there for me?"
The Lord replied,
"The times when you have seen only one set of footprints in the sand,
is when I carried you."

What we will need
- Soft music / easy listening music.
What we gonna do
- Play the music. Ask the children to walk freely in the room.
- Explain while they are walking that they are in a dream. Each one is walking in the beach that you are describing, but without characterize too much the sea, the sky, and the time of the day.
- Continue talking that in this dream we are walking next to God. Tell the story like each student would be the protagonist.
- Finally, tell the children that the dream is over and they are awaking. Everybody can yawn and stretch as they are awaking at that moment.
- Ask them: "How was your God?" "Why He was like that?" "How was your beach?" "How was your sea?"
- Other questions: "Why each one of us creates a different image although the story is the same to everyone?" Compare words and interpretations.
- Ask about the message of the story and what the meaning for each student.
